Irati Inoriza (Balmaseda, Bizkaia, 1992) is an artist and PhD candidate in Contemporary Art Research at the University of the Basque Country. She specialized her studies at the Performance Atelier of the University of Brno (Czech Republic, 2013/14). Selected for the Generación 2024 Award at La Casa Encendida (Madrid) and the Basque Artist Program Guggenheim 2024 (Bilbao–New York), she was the winner of the 9th Artistic Production Prize of Fundación Banco Santander with Open Studio 2021 (Madrid) and the Casal Solleric Exhibition Prize 2017 (Palma de Mallorca).
Her work questions the socially imposed and inherited ways in which we acquire a specific identity, through the linking of bodies, images, objects, and materials that stage our everyday life and context. Through the exercise of decontextualizing and resignifying, she creates installations of sculpture, video, and performance in which to find ways to imagine and construct alternative realities.
Her work has been part of Babestu AZ-Alhóndiga 2020/21 (Bilbao), Barriek 2020 (Bilbao), INJUVE 2018/19 (Madrid), and BilbaoArte 2016 (Bilbao). She has also participated in exhibitions at Intermediae-Matadero (Madrid, 2023/24), RAUMMG16 (Cologne, 2022), Ateljéföreningen Hospitalet (Uppsala, Sweden, 2022), La Capella (Barcelona, 2021), Sala Rekalde (Bilbao, 2020), Festival LOOP (Barcelona, 2020), Pablo’s Birthday (New York, USA, 2019), ZSenne Art Lab (Brussels, Belgium, 2019), Centro Cultural Montehermoso (Vitoria-Gasteiz, 2019), A-DASH Space (Athens, Greece, 2018), Okela (Bilbao, 2016), and Farm Cultural Park (Favara, Italy, 2014), among others.
