Here Carmen Mora makes portraits following Langer's lines. We do not know the identity of the models but we observe the lines of their gestures, the facial folds of the eyes or mouth, features here oversized and which end up looking like drawings made by water in the sand, sediments from the meander of a river, accumulations of material on walls over time, suggesting ambiguous, capricious forms: eyebrows, lips, eyelids, cheekbones, open smiles and closed gazes. By materialising these expressions in ceramic, the artist stops the movement of the face at a certain moment, surprise or joy become strange rock pipes, a feeling ends up becoming something external, something visible, waves moving on the wall, the face reflected in the pond. Muscular movements that in their rhythm show us what we are despite the fact that we change, that we move, that time inevitably passes. Vicente Huidobro says ‘The mirror of water changes every afternoon / the position of the willows’, that liquid mirror of the poet is a place of change, where a voiceless face can, as here, be reflected and blurred at the same time.
